About Me

controlling pests outside your home

Few things are quite as irritating as settling in on your patio or deck with a good book on a cool summer's evening and getting attacked by mosquitoes and other insects. Eliminating pests inside your home is oftentimes simple, but getting rid of the exterior pests can be a bit more complicated since they can come from so many places. Our blog will show you how to control exterior pests and even a few tips for keeping your home pest-free. We hope that the information that we have provided here will help you relax when you want to without having to deal with insects, rodents and other pests.

Mice Control And Prevention

Mice can be cute little critters when you see the little ones running around on their wheels in a pet store. However, those cute little colorful mice are not the same ones that will be trying to get into your home to chew up your wiring and eat up all the food they can gnaw their way into in your kitchen cupboards. You need to make sure you take proactive steps to prevent mice from getting in your home or you can quickly find you have a mouse infestation going on in your home.

Know the weak areas in your home

Mice can come in through many areas in your home, but the fact remains that there are specific areas that tend to be problem areas for more home owners. These are the areas you want to pay the most attention to in order to be sure you have sealed all cracks and crevices completely, taking away a mouse's ability to access your home through those areas.

Keep the trees cut back away from the roof or mice can climb up the trees, get on the roof and come into the attic through the smallest gap or through a vent. Cutting back the trees can also decrease the likeliness of you finding other critters in your attic including raccoons and squirrels.

Walk all around the outside of your home and verify any vents or ducts have protective screens on them that have no rips or holes in them. If there are, then you are going to want to fix the screens right away to prevent mice from using those areas as doors into your home.

Go inside of the house and look under every cabinet that has pipes coming in from the outside and verify you see no areas where there are gaps. If you do spot gaps, then seal them up immediately, or the mice will use them to enter the home and so will many other types of pests.

Go in the garage and make sure there are no areas where a mouse can get into the house through the garage. No matter how much you do to keep mice from the garage, there is always a chance of them coming in the garage, so you just need to make sure they don't then come inside.

Know when to get help

If you see signs of mice in the home, then you want to call a pest control company out. Many people try to get rid of mice on their own, but soon they find out it is much harder and more time consuming than they thought, so they end up calling someone out anyway. Contact a pest service, like Environmental  Pest Control, for more help.
